Structure Fire

An automatic fire alarm alerted firefighters to a local business on Penfield Road at 20 minutes after 6 this morning. The fire company chief pulled in with nothing showing from the building at first however he said as he parked his chief's vehicle and stepped out he could smell that infamous burning plastic smell that accompanies a fire. Very concerned he did a quick 360 of the building looking for anything obvious and as he rounded the back side he said that thick black oily smoke started to come out of a wall vent. With an obvious fire in progress he radioed the fire dispatcher which brought an additional engine from Fairport to the scene and an engine from Brighton to Penfield Station 1 for a fill in.
Penfield crews contained the fire to a second floor lab and kept it from spreading however there was smoke, heat, and water damage to the lab plus smoke damage throughout the second floor. No one was injured and crews were out for 2.5 hours with the incident.
