House Fire

For the first alarm of the month volunteers firefighters were call out just before noon for the report of a house fire on Penfield Rd just east of Gloria Dr.  The district chief was on location within 4 minutes of the first call to 911 and reported a laundry room on fire in the center of the house.  Engine Company 374 from station 3 arrived shortly after and stretched a line into the house and quickly knocked down the bulk of the fire.  The fire appears to have started in a dryer unit while the unit was running.   The older lath and plaster construction of the home helped contain the fire to just the one room.

History Note
The fire company has been to this address for fires a total of 3 times since the house was built in 1910.  According to the history book there was a barn fire in October 1954 and another 40x50 shed fire on July 22, 1971.  The shed fire in 1971 was started when a young man was cutting open a 55 gallon drum with a torch when it exploded killing him and setting the shed on fire.
